Doubt you'll get anything off the advertised price but no harm in phoning the dealers and trying. Good luck with the excalibur II. I'm out with mine again this week.

If you have any friends in the States I would definitely suggest having it sent to them and then on to you. I just bought one today in fact for $1099 US which is a pretty good deal (681 pounds). Not sure what kind of import taxes/duties you'd incur but it's worth checking out. Good luck.

Blimey Stewart, that's a heck of a saving. Well worth £681 plus tax.

Indeed. I'm all for supporting local businesses and I understand import taxes and all the rest of it but I'm not going to be tricked into paying double no matter what the product. As an example the list price of a new Etrac at a Minelab dealer in Japan is over $2500 US! I don't think so. I paid half that buying from the States.

Try getting prices from JA for cash or Laura at Detecniks, there was one on e-bay recently, don't know if its still on but worth a look. a lot of money but excellent bit of kit.

Minelab told me years ago they'd look into the price disparity between countries and get back to me with reasons for it. Needless to say I never heard anything from them.

ill be honest stewart ..ive always had a problem with the price we have to pay over here .....it will be interesting to understand were this almost 100% uplift comes from and how double the price can be justified.
its just seems so blatantly unfair....i know we pay much more tax over here as individuals but at the same time we are told taxes for business are some of the most competetive in the world to attract investment and so on and so on.
it is important also to look at the bigger picture of what can be offset against certain taxes ..ie took out in one hand but given back in the other .....interesting.

It's not just detectors is it? Many things are cheaper elsewhere in the world, especially electronics and cameras. I've seen it said that USA prices look cheaper because various taxes are not shown - they do not have a universal VAT type tax but state and national taxes instead - or so I believe! I could be wrong, I was once before - about 1956 I think it was!
There certainly seems to be something going off to prevent price-cutting. I thought that was illegal in this country! I can understand that there needs to be a limit to price cutting or there would be no dealers for us and finding specialist kit or spares would become a nightmare.

It's been happening for years, Peach Ideas was closed down for discounting detectors too much. It's not illegal where manufacturers want to protect the image an exclusivity of the brand, I think one of the supermarkets challenged a perfume or fashion brand and lost.

well if you going to have price fixing which it is - then whats the point of competitive markets ? they must be an illusion...... no different to nationalising shops - ie public owned outlets...but thats called protectionism by the rich ...well they would think that woulnt they.

im always lost has to why protectionism is so bad ? we already know London is the capital of fraud gangster bankers and nothing seems to stop them ..even now while the rest of hard working people burn.

for me its to do with this simple question ...."what will the market hold" - which translates to "how much can we squeeze out the plebs"

ethics - surely would be to have a unit cost made up of accurate cost to manufacture - with a fair uplift for the profit
or does the wall street ethos of today prevail ...greed is good.

    stinks
