Looks like the secondhand price of the CTX is comming down towards the cost of a new Etrac.

    Thats starting price.
A very good deal as he is throwing in good headphones.
The price is allways going to be £300/£400 below new.
Way it works sadly. You can never get level in this game.

Market forces will always determine what something is worth, a good starting price all the same, I think I would have had to set a reserve on it though.

    Re: Bargain CTX.....

First, I have to precede what I am going to say with " I think my CTX is the highest performing machine I have owned. That includes the following: Nautilus IIb, T2, Omega 8000, V3i & E-Trac." That said, the weight and lack of breaking down into 3 pieces is the reason I have mine up for sale (I get around on a bike). I wish it could have been a lighter package and more portable package.

Anyway, I thought to just pick up an X-Terra 705 until a light new Minelab comes out, or when Fisher release a new CZ. In the meantime I am a bit shocked at the prices barely used CTX's are selling for. I am offering mine at roughly 400 Euro less than the typical sales price in Germany and no one has bitten. I really wonder what the problem is. The economy in Germany & England is not bad like in America. When I see X-Terra 705's selling, newer ones go for 100 - 200 less than new ones. I guess % wise that is similar to the CTX but it is still shocking.

Do you guys think that the price used units sell for is often just a % thing or is it with certain units? Is it user perspective? (I haven't seen many bad things said about the CTX at all.) I ask because I haven't bought but one used unit.

Unfortunately as time goes on since release of most thing's no one will pay only a few quid less than they can buy it new. If someone offered me something second hand and it was not much different from the new price i would buy new. That's not assuming there's owt wrong with second hand ,it's just the way people think. If you think something is over priced in the first place you will wait and bide your time for a great second hand bargain, one will come along if you wait.

    .

The Xterra 705 is perfect for transportation in a rucksack. Also use my bicycle to get around and a CTX is not easy to fit in on a backpack.

    Re: Bargain CTX.....

The most compact and lightest machine available is still the XP Deus and they are now about to reach their 3rd birthday next month.

Just go to any rally and look at the huge number of them being used and Minelab who`s brilliant machines missed the boat by not matching this excellent product with regards ergonomics.

Codan will have to play catch-up as many of the other manufacturers will beat them to it using 21st century feather weight materials.

    Re: Bargain CTX.....

Yeah , loads of them .Good machine.
Put a large coil on it and it feels heavier than Etrac... Bad ergonomics .
Yes we know you can buy a product off swarfy to counteract this.
But does not come anyway near the ctx3030 for pure detecting joy.

The best thing about carrying a CTX is that people don't come up to you and say, "Oi, Guv." They say, "I say, Old Chap".

That is the thing, it is just really fun to hunt with a CTX - love the sounds (but hate the bulk and overall weight).

I had a Deus, very very nice machine. Even though it is light, it sure is coil heavy - but it is so light that with the stock coil it is no problem (for me). I could imagine that a larger coil would kill the balance. The Deus though, just doesn't have the fun factor for me compared to the E-Trac or CTX - the sounds and 2D screen speak wonders to me. Deus does have a very descriptive sound but I like Minelabs much much more. But, it was great for getting around on my bike, folded up nice. Thought to get a Deus collapsible rod and put an X-Terra 705 on it (but it would then be very coil heavy with the 10.5" DD). Who knows, perhaps if the Deus has a patch that helps to give it a stable VID at depth (instead of going blank), I might revisit it.

EOS - Thanks for the mention of the 705. I bet Minelab comes out with something new in the new year, maybe a Terra or a lighter and faster E-Trac or Explorer (please).

This one on ebay.co.uk is at a reasonable price, already over 2100 Euro with a few hours to go. Standard (wireless) pack with Grey Ghost headphones.

I sold my starter pack last night for 1800 Euros. I will miss the performance, but not the weight and bulk. Hopefully Minelab or Fisher come out with something a bit lighter and more portable.
