    Corfe 2013 poll opinions please

Just wanted to take a minute of everyone's time to do a quick poll about Corfe and what we feel.
Please vote away so we can see what people want in the future

Greatly appreciate the work Tony & Co put in. Having tried to get the right combination of campsite & nearby land up here I know how hard it is. The "holiday with detecting available" small scale format suits me nicely. Chuck in a fire & drinking & whats not to like? Great people, great location, great times everytime.

Re: Corfe 2013 poll opinions please

I've voted yes, but would probably scale down next year, arrive late Friday, leave late Sunday, that sort of thing.

I do really really love it though.

You don`t need new fields...... its turn of the plough, no more no less. Example "first on the right"....last year 55 hammered & 2 gold...this year...nadaa. There are probably around 1,000 acres all in...... even if 50 people do it for 5 days for 12 years they will miss stuff. Just my humble.

I also voted yes but would like to see it earlier in the month, even if it is on the same time as other rallies, and also possibly new land, even if it meant traveling a few miles to get there. But as David Hod says in Corfe's present position, I also would scale down to the same three days.

Would go to Corfe without hesitation it’s great socially and the finds still come up
Think this year we where a little unlucky with the rather inclement weather. we have had Indian summers that late in September but earlier would be find too.

well there wont be any turn of the plow this year we where in those fields all day sunday till it got dark and they where working them at the same time.......just discking them so pretty much what you got this year will be what you get next as it wasn't turning the soil much.
i know there is loads of bits still out there its just the space between them is a lot more than it was, maps (showing the old clay pits) and a bit of new land would be a massive improvement.......im quite happy to pay for a map by the way.

please dont think im complaining its a great rally and i am very happy and if its the same land again so what? ill be there

Re: Corfe 2013 poll opinions please

It is a difficult one really.
Finds this year were far and few between but having said that a few really nice bits came out of the ground
so there are bits and pieces worth finding still.

But there is a lot more to Corfe than just detecting. Meeting up with other members is in many ways just as good,
if not better, than finding something half decent.

Corfe 2012 was slightly different because there did'nt appear to be any one field that produced the goods.
It ment that those who attended did'nt do the typical hour detecting & then an hour chatting because we were all spread out which was a pity.

I have been the last 3 years running and although I found jack sh#t this year I am 90% sure I would go to the effort of attending again next year.

I think it would help if a date was fixed earlier in September though.

Another thought is perhaps do a ''quiz night'' on the friday which would concentrate everybody around the fire pit & if done correctly could be a proper laugh. All we would need is a projector & screen a PA system & lots of beer, etc.
Maybe on the sat night perhaps hold a auction of items, detecting days out, etc, etc?? as well as a smaller raffle with less prizes??

Even if the format of Corfe does'nt change its a credit to Tony Hunt because its SUPERB!!xx

Re: Corfe 2013 poll opinions please

I think I was trying to put across something similar. If it was on, I couldn't miss the Saturday. And a couple of days detecting would be enough. Plus, I won't get time off work next year .

Tony, it's brilliant, to paraphrase some crap film with Kevin Costner in it....... "If you hold it, we will come".

Re: Corfe 2013 poll opinions please

Heres how its going to have to be so no need for a Poll. The main reason I made it later this year was because it was looking very unlikely that we could have even had half the donkey field at the earlier date we usually do in september. Because camping generally has got more popular theres no way they wanted us there when they were full of late holidaymakers. The second reason was the lateness of the season and the fact bad weather could have affected fields available also.
If Corfe does go ahead next year theres a possibility we might not be able to have the fields in the village. Finds were seriously reduced up there anyway this year because its had us on it for twelve years and finds dont get replaced and theres no way Im seeding it just to keep you lot happy.
If we did do a social gathering there in future years say with a count of 20-30 of the more hardy regular members for three days theres no way I could pay three farmers a share and also have some left to put to forum funds out of what we normally charge.
I think the format would have to be a much smaller gathering of the die hard members who mostly want to meet up and chat anyway but with detecting available just on Norden farm so that there would only be one farmer, Jonathon to pay. Theres no way we can pay another farmer plus his landlord like I have done in the past for that extra land, specially with the amount of finds that came off this year up there, people would soon start complaining with nothing coming up.

Theres no more land in that area we can remotely think about securing in the future. Being mostly big estates and National trust owning most of it they just dont want to know even if you offered them megabucks which we can't.
I think Corfe as a venue for a reasonable amount of people has had its day.
The main MLO rally in the future is going to have to move to a different area, somewhere with similar shower & toilet facilities to corfe campsite nearby or on site.
Bedford is another possibility for an added venue like this year, but thats down to Dave Phillips and not going to benefit MLO funds like corfe.
If anybody has got ideas and an access to a thousand acres plus a campsite on or nearby that would last us several more years then let us know please. It must preferably be in the centre of the country so everybody could get there easily. I think its going to be a tall order.

Were we supposed to be there for the Detecting the main thing was a brilliant MLO get together and one cracking log fire,
its not the usual Detecting rally its way better.

True mark a holiday really after w/ wanderers free for all. Still can't believe they managed to fit in 1600 detectorists, don't bear thinking about. Glad I gave it a miss.

Re: Corfe 2013 poll opinions please

    Wellll....... I`ve got a campsite.

And I`ve got a landowner nearby with 1800 acres "thinking about it".

And its as near the middle as you`ll get.

Downside is its about 2 mile from campsite to fields and limited parking.....working on that with somebody else.

As I said earlier its soooo difficult sticking the pieces together!
