Editing Your Own CTX-3030 Modes In X-Change2.

Does anyone know why you cannot edit your own saved program modes in X-change 2 CTX 3030 collection.
I have found that if you have made and saved 5 of your own program modes either using the CTX or using X-change2 that there is no option to edit any of these programs in the CTX 3030 collection mode on X-change2, the only way you can make any changes is to delete from the CTX machine modes menu the preferred mode which you want to edit ( While not connected to X-change2 via USB cable ) then reconnect the CTX to X-change2 ( via the USB cable ) and revert back to X-change2 and the ALL Collection and carryout the intended editing on your program and when satisfied all changes are correct click and drag the new mode into your CTX 3030 Collection.
What a mess about instead of just being able to edit your mode direct on the X-change2, I thought the whole idea was to be able to construct your own programs on X-change2 then upload to the CTX.
You can alter your own modes on your CTX through Menu Edit but I do not know what happens when you reconnect to X-change2 USB does it corrupt your own X-change2 saved CTX 3030 Collection
Possibly the answer would be to do what Tony Hunt has done and delete all 5 of the Minelab CTX pre-stored program modes and add your own in there as well.

You can't edit the modes stored on the CTX in Xchange 2 but you can edit the modes stored on your computer.
You can drag and drop a mode from the CTX into a file on your computer then edit it rename it then drag and drop back to the CTX.
You can store as many modes as you like on your computer but no more than 10 on the CTX.
If the detector memory is full you will need to delete a mode from the CTX before attempting to upload an editted or new mode.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello Aston

It is not possible to drag out any of your own 5 program modes for editing which is in your CTX 3030 file which is only displayed on the computer screen while connected by USB to X-change2, the only way you can edit a users own mode is to delete it from the CTX machine memory while not connected via the USB, then when after you reconnect via USB you can then edit the selected mode in the ALL Collection and carryout the intended editing on your program and when satisfied all changes are correct click and drag the new mode into your CTX 3030 Collection.
If you do not delete a own mode from the CTX 3030 first when you attempt to drag a edited program mode from the ALL Collection into your CTX 3030 Collection a message comes up informing you that there is a mode limit of 10 in your CTX 3030 file, I have been trying to find a solution to this problem since I got the CTX in May, there is no answer in the downloaded manual to help.
The manual is pure crap compared to the Etrac paper manual and all previous Minelab machine manuals.

    Hi Randy

Just did what I think you want to do.

Open the CTX in Xchange 2
Drag and drop the mode you want to change into a collection file on the left (I used samples)
Open the collection and you will find the mode file you dragged and you can now edit it.
Save the edited mode with a new name eg xxx2.
If there are already 10 modes stored in the CTX you can't transfer the edited file to the CTX at this stage.
Open the CTX and drag the original mode to the recyle bin.(If you want to keep a copy of the original mode drag a copy to the collection file before you delete the copy on the CTX)
Open the collection file and you will find the original file and version2.
Drag the edited file to the CTX and then disconnect.
When the CTX has updated reconnect and check the CTX contents, original mode has gone version 2 is present.
Both the original and edited files remain stored in the collection file on your computer until you delete them by dragging them to the recyle bin.
It's quicker to do than describe at my typing speed
    Cheers

Re: Editing Your Own CTX-3030 Modes In X-Change2.

    Hello Aston

In the past I have tried dragging one of my CTX modes into a newly created Collection File to see if I could edit my mode there I get a message Copied To This Folder but when I have looked into my CTX 3030 Collection the old mode is still there.
But I think you have sussed it because I have not dragged my mode into the Sample Collection which I will give it a try on Thursday as I am out all day tomorrow detecting, I will let you know if it works for me.
I was beginning to think I couldn't get a grasp of it and I was cracking up, one of those age things I am just a few months younger than you.

    Hi Randy

Dragging to a folder including the CTX copies the file but leaves the original file where it .
Dragging to the recyle bin which does delete the file and doesn't leave a copy.

    All the best

Re: Editing Your Own CTX-3030 Modes In X-Change2.

Hey Guys, when editing a mode, is there a way to turn off the sound for a section...for example, the ferrous section in a combined coin mode so that it "blanks" when I swing over - say a nail? Thanks all and happy hunting! Montana Melanie

ps...or do I have to "reject" a target to get it to blank?

    I agree - I think it's a bit annoying that you can't edit the ctx3030 collection.
