Thread: Has anyone noticed ?

    Has anyone noticed ?

    CTX 3030
I have noticed that on some signals they are really banging out then when you check the clods over the top of the coil you hardly get a signal ? its happened on both the ctx,s so it seems normal anyone else noticed this ?

yeh would be nice to know why it does this?
maybe something todo with the auto tracking/groundbalance?

I had a couple of these as well! Good signal - dig, spoil heap and hole = no signal, refill hole = good signal again! still couldn't find it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Has anyone noticed ?

been detecting 20 years and can tell you its the detector, when laid on the floor stationary it occasionaly nulls out & wont even signal a viccy penny in the clod when waved over the coil!!
when trying to find your signal you can throw it , because it doe'snt make any sound !
very annoying, it doe'snt do it all the time but you can hear the threshold null when it does...
seems random & cant pin the reason down to anything..
    steve..

    Re: Has anyone noticed ?

i detect in all metal its not iron.
when the detector is laid down i can sit and listen to the threshold go on and off, one time it will signal the target a few seconds later it will not!
i have checked the ground and made sure its clean..
have read a thread on here about somebody not getting any depth with is detector laid down...
i am thinking its a possible problem with the wm10 unit( im on my second one first one went faulty)
will try next time directly plugged in

    Hi Mick.
I too have noticed this and especialy on small lead and airgun pellets. The initial signal is great but once the soil is disturbed and the target removed its gone for a short while.

I allways persivere with it and find it after disturbing the soil for a few moments, but it can be a bloody pain trying to locate it again.
Incidently this use to happen with the Etrac too but not quite as much.

My own Theory on this phenomenon is that the Tiny items the Ctx and Etrac are very capable of finding due to the excellent sensitivity of these detectors coupled with the Hallo affect or conductivity of the soil around these very small targets allow,s these detectors to get good depth on very small items particulary in Pasture, and once the soil or clod is lifted and the soil fragments or that hallo or ball of conductive soil is disturbed the signal is then lost and has to refound for want of a better word.
    Thats my theory.

    Re: Has anyone noticed ?

I also believe it is the halo effect... I have the same process with the CTX and the GPX, especially things like copper and specific minerals that will give an ionic halo. The halo effect is most pronounced in salt environments.

I to have experienced something like this but found it was small bits of hot rock, might not be your problems though.

    Re: Has anyone noticed ?

seems to be like a previous poster has said nulling out ? seems to happen when th machine is near horizontal ? the threshold goes and no matter what you wave in front there no signal if you reposition the coil to get the threshold back you then get the signal seems to be a problem somewhere that needs sorting ,as I said originally its done it on both the machines Ive had so seems like it could happen on all the CTXs ? anyone know how I can contact someone in the know at minelab ?

Your theory is correct, plus its done it with every tector iv had, I once posted a similar question about it and everybody said the same about disturbing the signal

I dont know if you think thats the problem Im having Mick cause its not ,you lay the tector down while you check the clods and if the threshold stays you get a signal if it goes with the same clod in your hand it doesnt register total silence ,nothing whatsoever to do with halo effects etc its the machine nulling out for some reason

Sovereign's, SE's, EXii, Etrac, all did, and do the same, on the beach with the sovereign elite you could dig the target, could be in 2 inches of sand in the pile and nothing.....pop it into auto sensitivity, and bingo, signal returns......
    Back to an E-Trac

If the ctx is auto tracking, chances are your tracking out the signal after the first few sweeps of the target

i dont think FBS or FBS2 detectors track the ground, they works differently..........or so i have been led to believe, so im probably wrong

no need for sarcasm. some where on here there was a thread and in that thread they said that fbs detectors dont track and ground balance the same way most detectors do. i cant remember the rest but it was fairly convincing.
