hi chums ,
got my 3030 and im completeley lost!
sold my beloved etrac and i just cant get on with it cant see how you can put your own discrim fields or anything......HELP PLEASE

dont get so worried,have a look on here then download Gogs progs and job done ,Im running the combined program and loving every minut of it

this is going to sound gay but you need to look at the manual there are diffrent ways to acces thing not like the etrac theres cases off pressing a button and holding one pressed.

Have Patience youll get there, Im not much of a read a manual detectorist, Although I consider myself fairly intellegent I cannot comprehend some things in the book (which you have to print out yourself), but im getting there. Im going to have to study the thing properly before I go to Corfe.

Mermaid. No you cant input the exchange programme using a mac, I had the same trouble as my main pc is an imac. Luckily I have a laptop as well which solved the problem. Dont you know anybody with a laptop or pc with windows you could run exchange through. You can download the 3030 user manual online just google it or go on minelabs website. That will help you get started. You don't necessarily need exchange to get started detecting but you will need it to help you store and keep or use other peoples programmes.
If you were close enough to come to corfe rally next week I would do it for you. Will have all the gear there and a host of programmes including most of gordons and some of mine.
Your other alternative if your close enough is go back to the shop where you bought it and ask them to help you out with programmes.
To be honest if you have used the Etrac then with a little bit of care and a read of the 3030 user manual and an hour or two spent digesting the information you should be able to find your way round the 3030 menu and change a few things. You have all the minelab programmes in there to use out of the box. When you get used to the detector you probably wont want to keep them in there because in this country they are far too over the top for our type of detecting.
The 3030 menu is really easy to use once you have found what everything does. Its possible to change all your settings and even tones in the field, even make screen patterns providing the sun Isn't too bright.
Maybe this winter when things are quiet I might make a lengthy post same as I did with the ETrac explaining how to work through the menu for the new owner. That seemed to help quite a few people understand things in ordinary language.

I can understand how "mermaid" feels because I just got one and took it outside in my test garden. I've been using the SE Pro so I think I will get used to this machine soon. Still, it is new to me until I learn how to set the settings. So, here is my question, actually I have two) FIRST; are settings done on the Xchange2 program or can all of them be done on the machine itself? With the SE Pro there seems to be more settings than the CTX, and they are all done on the machine so at the start-up, this is where I need or would appreciate some input. SECOND; do programs vary from country to country? I read alot about 'gogs' programs and I will be very happy to download but won't they be different in another country? I live in the USA, would you happily download a program that was known to be great but it is a USA program. Serious question, I really don't know. Thanks, Don

Yes you *can* set it up on the machine, but the software is easier.
If your in the USA, you should take a look at a few other programs designed for US coins.
I myself prefer Gonehuntingforhistorys settings. But be warned, it is an open screen with no discrimination, takes awhile to get used to if you havn't already done that with other detectors.

Btw the CTX excels at finding masked coins, etc in iron if you use open screen. I *LOVE* it. I've ordered the 6" coil to improve my finds in iron even more.(Tons of nails here in parks, etc)
