    Two new Farms.

With the disapointment of losing fields last week, I now have gained permission on two new farms.
Went on one of them on a club dig about twentyfive years ago when only two fields were available, no one detected on it previous to that and no one as detected on it since. The farm consists of about 450 acres and the farmer as given me a free hand on the farm, I asked a few months ago and he asked me to return at the end of August/begining of September and meet him again due to building work going on. When I detected this site with the club I had a beautiful Fibula broach form there, so things look promissing.
The second one is a farm in Prestatyn, I have know the farmer for a number of years, we met though a mutual friend, dropped the hint and he asked me if I wanted to go onto his farm but due to the fact that another guy had been on there 20 years ago I havent been on there. But with the technology of todays detectors being far supperior than the old ones I have decided to give that one a go as well.

    Hi
Not too sure why you seem to think that the second farm may not be productive, as someone had detected it 20years ago.

I went out the other month and managed to get a permission on a farm and the farmer said there used to be a gent that did this farm a few of years ago but he had not seen him for over 2 years.
I went there Sunday armed with a quick overlay of old maps went to an area that should have been an orchard and managed over 30 buttons, various georgian/victorian coppers, a cartwheel penny /George 111 shilling and 4 of the biggest 17th/18th centuary shoes buckles.
Only did approx 3 hours as felt ill and been poorly since only just managed to walk up the hill but that is another story.

If the gent had access to a computer he did not research the area for possible hotspots or he had an old detector or did not know what to listen for.

Never say never, we have a club site around 20 acres over 2 fields that has been detected every year for 6 years by approx 15/20 members each time, so you could say not worth going it has been done to death literally. Wrong on the 2 club digs I have attended in the last 18 months, I have had 2 x hammered and 1 x roman and most others had something of interest.

Give it a go you will be amazed at what people walk over or miss.

    Good luck on them.

    Regards
    Ben

Nobody ever gets everything from a field no matter how long they have detected it for. I think most must have been on fields that have been previously "searched out" and yet still found nice things.

    Re: Two new Farms.

Went to one of the farms today, did a quick job for the farmer. During a conversation with him he told me that he had remembered from the time the club detected on the farm which was twentyfive years ago a guy came a few times about ten years ago and never came back and then told me that the guy found a groat and some silver coins some bent over he new that they were love tokens but said they looked like silver threepenny bits(joeys) we all know what they were, he as marked on maps for me where the guy found them. Weather permitting going on there next week.
The only down side of this farm is that its all dairy, no ploughed land.

That 'dairy' land will come into it's own during the wet winter months when all the other fields have crop on. Fingers crossed that they produce something of interest
