I need help with ctx problem with iron all over the place

    CTX 3030
Yesterday I went for a club dig and had a lot of problems with my ctx. There was a lot of (big) iron in the stubble field. I received a lot of signals between ID 12/34 - 12/41. Everytime it appeared to be iron. After 2 hours with only digging iron and nothing else I tried my other detector the XP Deus. Within 30 minutes I found 4 coins and 5 buttons and some pieces of lead. I only dug 1 piece of iron. I used gordons tadpole settings, with auto +3 (but also changed it to auto and manual 20). Deep on, fast recovery off. Ground ferrous-coin (also tried ground-coin) and sounds smooth. As I read on the forum that all off you are having great results with the ctx it must be something I am doing wrong.

Hope you can help me out.

    Peter

Pewejo, what was your "heat map"? Only red showing? I mean only in the non-disc part? If you were getting 2 targets, blueish one in disc area and reddish in non-disc area, did you switch to wide-open screen? That usually shows whether there is only rusty iron (I'm still getting both red and blue heat map, but no hair-cross in good target area) or some goodie close to the iron...

Peter do you detect with the detect screen, or target
Trace pinpoint? Are you picking up multiple targets when you have a hit on iron?
(BTW have we met at a bbq with Marijke?)

Eyesight, sometimes there was only red showing, but most of the times I saw also blue. So I thought there would be two objects. One with iron and one wich was highly conductive. When I doug the iron there was not another signal anymore.

I detect with the target trace (pinpoin) on. The target trace was centered at the 12/34 - 12/41 area. Sometimes I also saw the blue part in the right corner.
I did not find multiple targets. (btw did not meet jou at the bbq)

To me that means you missed both those targets and only found the iron target - OR - that the iron target also had conductive parts like Cu, Al, etc. embedded within it. Therefore did you check the target and hole after pulling them?

The darker the signal means a stronger target, so blue, means it was the dominant component.

I suspect people out there are a little mixed up with the not so intuitive heat map. For instance the heatmap goes yellow, red, then blue for intensity. It would me more intuitive if it were light yellow, yellow, red, dark red, but not in the end to blue. I would like to modify the heat map shades/scale since I often work with heat maps for graphical representation. This could be included with simple firmware and PC/Mac software addition, such that you could either select or create different heatmap modes. It would be great benefit to those who are colorblind. Plus this would be lethal if it were combined with the ability to also modify and program volume levels on conductivity and ferrous levels.

Only had 1 day with my new CTX but in Ferrous Coin target separation using 50 tones conductive with minimal discrimination found that rusty iron WILL give a false ID as if it were a good target.Visual target ID was always in the 12-40's range and definitely no good target with the iron. The target trace would show a red good target and blue ferrous target but 9 times out of 10 only iron in the hole. This only happened on Ferrous Coin and not on the other 3 modes. This mode will identify good targets with accuracy but forget it on iron !!
