I have had too much wine tonight as I thought the title was for a oldies dating site.

Two main marks are missing namely the year mark and the Assay mark.

Marks from left are sponsors mark; Sovereigns head mark George III used from 1786 till 1821, silver standard.

With the absense of the year and assay mark I would suspect that it is a foreign import with a sponsors mark.

Value a few pounds as only a single item.

    Re: old fork for dating

    Hi Jon,

What seems to be confusing is the absense of marks on the fork. Yes the assay mark for Sheffield is V in rounded losenge for 1798 or square for 1819 but there is no mark for Sheffield showing. It could also be Chester 1817, Birmingham 1793 or 1819.

Its there no assay mark on the fork anywhere as this would clinch it? Looking for Crown, Anchor or Shield for Sheffield, Birmingham and Chester respectivly.
