This isn't slag is it ?

Poped down to my Token field today, just for an hour (better than nothing). Out popped this unusual find? It's very heavy at 2lb 4oz (1022g) and if my calculations are correct it has a mass of 5.1 ? which probably puts it in the realms of being 'hematite' but it's not got any iron content at all so can't be hematite?. One side has the remains of a black shiny substance covering the surface, with the other sides being silver/metallic/green. No signs of the usual smelting process so I even have my doubts that it's slag of any description? It's not magnetic. It does, however, get a good non-ferrous signal on the GPX but unusually I get a better response from a coin than this lump of rock! Couldn't believe it's large size compared to the signal I got!! Thought it was going to be a shallow lead token. Incidentally, never found anything on this field even resembling slag before

Very unusual find, it does't look like slag to me either, I am thinking meteorite so I would get it looked at down at your nearest museum and if they don't know will send it off for analysis. If it is then that is a very rare find but it's only my wild guess. Be interested to learn more about it.

Curious one! Is the green copper? Is it ore?

I hope it's a bit of meteorite for you. Rare and valuable if so! Good luck!

Sorry but I'm not thinking meteorite, it could easily be hematite, which is an iron ore but would't give a ferrous signal as the iron is in a compound. Your location makes me thing of The Weald iron industry, either ore, slag or a concentrate for further refining.

It looks like galena or stibnite or one of the metal sulphides, it looks like there's a bit of copper in there too but you are in the wrong part of the country. The small signal you get is also confusing.

I hope it does turn out to be a metoerite but one that size would have left a very very large crater.

To me - a meteorite, if I can see both sides cleaned. The first picture looks as if there is a smooth crust, as would be expected of a bolide.
The only point of contention is that vertical strike in the second picture. Barr that, that'd be putting money down on a bet that it is a bona fide, off this world, rock. It's definitely not stibnite.

Some more pics..... I've sent some pics to a bloke who runs a uk meteorite site, I recon he should be able to tell ? Considering this has been gone over with the plough a few dozen times it's done quite well

Had several similar finds with a very low buzz tone almost hollow in sound same signal at earthenware from very large ironware.
perhaps yours is different and does look smoother and like a meteorite smoothed by entry.
I found mine from the beach and also have a silvery/lead appearance on some corners/edges.
Get it tested for sanity sake please!!!!!!!

I also found something I havent found before.I was detecting in the woods and found this meteorite look a like.It doesnt stick to a magnite, nor is it lead, heavy but not so heavy or soft as lead.

Do you have the email address to the meteorite expert.Maybe I can consult him in this question.

Watching with interest. I have a couple of items that I would like to get checked also.
I found an interesting item at Bedford last year and I stuck it in a near tree. If it is there still this year I will bring to to camp. It looked like a rock.
If I remember correctly the detector did not make a signal but the garrett pointer did or maybe the other way round. Hope it is still in the tree.
