    Mount Marks

    Hi all,
Well on Sundays dig in a new field, it made my day finding a really gorgeous Victoria 1800's Gothic Florin, my 1st there I was smiling away looking at one side , wow I thought turned it over and mmmm, looks to be mount marks now I can't tell if these have melted into the coin or whether it's a removable melted something (I'm a woman-forgive my novice talk )

Any ideas? or too hard to tell

Thats a lovely coin. The solder should have a lower melting point than the coin, or it could not have been done in the first place but... there are fluxes that lower the melting point at the join, so the melting point could be within 5 degrees c or so. The coin underneath might also have been filed to help the solder take better.

So it might be possible to melt most of the solder off, but it won't remove the marks altogether. I'd leave it.
