Anyone going to use Windows 8?

This is a pretty sophisticated group, so a poll to see who's looking forward to the release of Windows 8, or who's staying as far away as possible from Windowws 8 might be instructional to a lot of third-parties. I've been using computers since 1978 and I've tried and tried to get my head around the beta of Windows 8 without success. It leaves me exhausted trying to do the simple tasks that people take for granted with Windows. If you've downloaded and tried the beta, what's your impression? Goingto go out and buy it for your pc?

Steve! Windows 8 is not designed for a PC computer! It is primarily intended for tablets and maybe fancy phones and all feedback so far suggests that it will be a disaster for PCs. If they stop support for Windows 7 I will give up on Uncle Bill Gates' pension fund altogether. I've already gone onto LibreOffice and Firefox - the operating system will be next if Microsoft mess me about!

    Not very good with computers.
It took me ages to swap from XP to W7 (missing out vista!)
    Sticking with 7 now.

Win 7 is a very stable platform now all the bugs are amost fixed.

I have always taken the view that stay with what I have for a while till at least the first service pack has been issued then upgrade. Price has normally come down by then as well.

Would go to a Mac but how can they justify the price for the same spec I have with my PC. It would costs over £2500 from Apple for the same spec for my PC which I built for £600.

Don't be a guinea pig for Microsoft, Mal's right stick with 7, you could try Linux if you feel you want a change, I run it on an old PC and my Raspberry Pi not bad for open source.

The latest bit I've heard is that Microsoft, in an effort to make connecting printers easier, are changing the way Windows 8 will recognise and assign a driver for the printer. This will require printer manufacturers to learn the new system and build their drivers accordingly. Problem is that printer manufacturers will not bother to produce new drivers for their older (pre Windows 8) machines so your existing printer will probably not work. I've just had the driver problem with a Canon printer when I changed to W7 - there was no driver available because the printer was about 4 years old. Despite being an expensive photo printer in perfect working order it was scrap!
Microsoft are also aiming to take on the top selling iPads and others with their own brand hence the non PC friendly Windows 8 operating system.
Have fun if you are daft enough to follow the Windows-latest-operating-system-junkies, it looks like an interesting ride for you!

i'm happy to admit that I've found no reason whatsoever to buy Windows 8. It's a crap operating system for the pc, and i'm not doing the tablet thing. I think Microsoft has another Vista on their hands and it really could be the breaking point of their monopoly on the market. I've been an MS partisan for nearly 30 years, but this time I think they've gone the Dignitas route.
