Had a sudden rush to the head last week and ordered myself the new Minelab CTX 3030, been thinking about it for a while but kept putting it off while I waited for some good reports. I've always been happy with the other minelabs I've had so decided to go for it.
Took it out for it's first session this weekend and decided to go to a field I've been doing since 1995 so I could put it to the test. This was the 2nd farm I ever got permission on and was in my local village so I must have spent hundreds of hours on it with lots of different machines over the years.
Field Test - I started off in an area with high iron contamination, I usually avoid it but had heard this new machine was better with iron. Straight away I could hear the Iron nulling, then I started to get crisp signals coming through, all these turned out to be non-ferrous bits amongst the iron. I moved away from the area and was suprised by the number of signals I was getting some at really good depths. My first find of note was a cut quarter which is a first for this field and a rare find for me on pasture! Gave me confidence with the machine starght from the off!I then managed a nice little roman brooch also a first for this field,
All in all a good start, had a lot of non-ferrous targets and did not dig a single piece of iron which is very suprising as I was digging all the iffy signals to test the machine. All of which turned out to be either very small or deep non-ferrous bits.
A negative point is the machine is a bit top heavy so when you put it down on uneven ground it topples over, could do with a wider stand on the base. I couldn't get the wireless headphone gadget to work in the field, that will teach me not for reading the manual! I did find the Minelab App handy as it has the manual on it :t Good for in the field problems.
That's my fist impression of this machine, can't wait to try it on some decent land - Roll on the harvest
Here are the finds from my first session...
