Hello to all and thanks to Mal

I used to detect many years ago in the Dorset area (1980's)
My wife has just completed treatment for breast cancer and has been seeking a pastime that will also take her outdoors and have health benefits.
She loves the coast and has a fascination for all things historic.
Talking one night i suggested detecting and she immediately got excited.
We did a bit of googling and discovered Mal's great beach videos.
These have been a big inspiration for Dawn and we are now looking at getting new detectors.

    Great hobby
    Great Forum
    Great video's.

    Thanks to Mal.

    Best wishes to all

Welcome aboard the Good ship MLO.

Its had many passengers over the years and even a few changes to the captain and crew but still continues on its worldwide journey. Jerry.

    Thank you all.
We are almost decided on an Excallibur and an xterra 705.
We plan on alternating between the two, Me in the water and Dawn on the dry stuff.
Swapping over every couple of hours should enable us both to learn the machines.
We will have a go at the video's as well.
Really enjoying this forum and it's wealth of knowledge.
    Best regards

Hi John and Dawn welcome to the forum and hope you have a great time with us. Excellent choice of machines which you will not go wrong with, they are my two main machines along with the e-trac.

The excalibur I have hip mounted, some say it is better to rig it up chest mounted but either way put a piece of cord to act as a strain relief on the coil cable going to the control box. I know I am a bit ahead of myself as you have not bought them yet but thought I would chip in. Also go for good headphones on the 705, I personally like Grey Ghost, but just my choice.

All the best to you both.

Hi, nice to meet you both

You might consider going platinum so you could attend our Corfe rally, its a great way to meet others and for someone starting out could be invaluable!
Just a suggestion but if you intend doing any inland work it might be better to get two multi purpose machines that can be used across all areas or if your budget stretches a ctx3030 which can do wading work and dry land.
    Good luck
    Pete
