Used to be the coil of choice before the SEFs appeared on the scene. I seriously considered getting one for my Sovereign.
    Finding ancient rubbish since 1977.
    With help from:
    Joan Allen BFO (yuk)
    Whites CG3, BC5D, CM6000/S2, Surfmaster.
    Tesoro Cutlass, Bandido
    Laser B1, and Hi-power
    Sov XS2a pro (that's better)
    E-trac (perfect)

I use the dd and mono on the GPX for beach, river, salt and outback environments. Never a problem. Often the dd is on religiously. Immersed halfway up the shaft.

Cheers for that bit of info Elsepio, Yea it is for my explorer xs. I,v got the origonal explorer 11 coil on at the moment and i,v never really liked it to clumsy looking and never felt very strong. Don,t know why but it never inspired confidence in me, Just might give this platy a try. I would get a pro coil but thought i might wait for that when i go for a detector upgrade, Something to look forward to in future. cheers all for your input...Anymore info would be welcome, Thankyou please.

They are a lovely coil, Coiltek have mentioned that they might produce a Platypus for the X-terra as well, the price mentioned is really good value

    hi brian.

before i got the SEF coil i had a Platypus coil on my explorer xs and loved it. what a difference it was over the stock coil. you can defiantly tell that you are hearing targets much tighter in the ground, it's more sensitive over the stock coil, you get less folsing over the stock coil and defiantly a much stronger built coil.

    Hi Brian,

I have used the platypus coil on my explorer 2 to good effect on the beach wet and dry rock pools and all. Its a well built and robust coil whic benefits from better target seperation in iorny areas due to its eliptical shape
