Mike, absolutely 100% genuine. The registration was bought via the DVLA website and was modestly priced - all paperwork is now complete

You suggest professional help but the high costs involved would be well outside of my comfort zone - only one clear treatment comes to mind

That's FANTASTIC! When I bought my Mini, I immediately ordered an older British number plate for the front of it....but having one like that would be absolutely awesome! If you EVER get tired of it, please let me know.....I have a perfect spot for it on this little British car of mine.

So, what's wrong with a having a Honda CRV just for use when detecting?

I also have a Skoda Superb (2011 model) with the plate D16 DAE (DAE my first three initials and D16 which, if the viewer is drunk, can be read as DIG!).

Also a 1926 Triumph motorcycle with the plate PF 819.

I'm thinking that this should really have been posted under "any chat" and apologise to any moderators upset by this - please feel free to move the thread.

As promised here are shots of the bike:

I have the original Log Book and am only the 4th registered owner since 1926!

I met the man who bought the bike new - he went to London from Chobham as he knew a dealer in town who would give him a £5 discount.

I then met the second owner who bought the bike second-hand in 1934 in order to have transport for his honeymoon. He lent me the two black and white photographs shown below.

I bought the bike in 1973 but then, for fiscal reasons, sold it to a local garage owner. I was then able to but it back from him in 1984. The coloured photograph shows it being delivered to my house.

I have a feeling that I am not going to get around to restoring the bike which is in original un-touched condition - this is how collectors of such machines like to find them. A full restoration would cost about £7000 and it would then be worth about £7000!

The tank, missing from the colour photograph, has been professionally restored as has the magneto. The costs were £500 and £100 respectively.

The crazy thing is that anyone wishing to maximise their yield from a sale would get the most if they sold the Registration Mark (PF 819) and then broke the bike up for spares. I would not dream of doing this but, out of interest, I got a quote from one of the major Personal Number Plates companies. They were eager to sell on my behalf and expected to return me a minimum of £4500.

Love that bike ,I thought it might be that style with the long narrow tank, my grandfather had a 1920's Indian Scout which was the first bike I ever rode as a youngster.
