have you never used a BIG coil?they are great in the right ground i love the 18" SEF but it is madness, it gets some good comments at rallies.
by the way the ctx is waterproof so you should be ok in the rain

I intend to get a larger coil at a later date, but at present I want to master the standard one, I think a smaller coil would allow for an easier introduction into its capabilites.

Gave the 17" coil a testdrive at the beach yesterday evening.
Very few finds of the dry sand these lasts months, mostly due to being cleaned regularly by a guy owning an e-trac.
    Me!
Wet part of the upper tide line has seen some decent amounts of sand deposited and also has seen frequent visits by the same E-trac owner.
Well,... scratching for targets as they say!

So bring out the big gun!
Needed a little while to get use to, it's BIG!
Auto sens -1 for quiet running.

Result for about and hours detecting.
2 coins heavily corroded, 2 pieces of copper shrapnel with a pattina on them???, 1 shard of stainless steel with barnacles attached, 1 samsung cellphone

stretch of beach looked like it had been hit by mortarfire, I need a longer handle on my scoop!!!

And it scares the !?@&€ out of the fast swinging low flying garett aces, BIG GRIN!

Tried mine for the first time on the beach for an hour tonight got therea bit late about 7pm found about £7 and found a diamond ring for a young lady on the second swing, I couldn't believe how well balanced it was, not a problem with the weight, it was a pleasure to use.
