Taking a lap top into the field

    CTX 3030
I would like to take my laptop into the field and try the Xchange software using win XP (old spare laptop).

My question to the tekkies out there is : Can I use my I phone 4 as an external modem and connect to the internet using a usb cable to view maps etc, or do I need to buy a Dongle and pay monthly for internet, are there any other options ?

Well since Apple is such a power hungry company,I don't think it has an option built in like Android does to allow you to make a hotspot or tether to a computer. But there is a program you can use Pdanet.

If you have your Iphone jailbroken (which is not illegal or something, it just gives you control), you can use it. Won't work on a non jailbroken phone.

I had an Iphone a couple of years ago that I jailbroke and was able to throw in a Tmobile sim card instead of the AT&T it came from. There are constant updates from Apple and the community has to re-do their JB to defeat their new locks. Last time I did it, it was super easy. Go to a website on Iphone, then push a button on the screen that did all the work for you.

Go here to check out the Pdanet app.http://www.junefabrics.com/iphone/index.php

Go here for the best place to learn tips and tricks about your Iphone. http://modmyi.com/jailbreak/

These are safe websites and the modmyi.com is full of great information. It's a lot easier than rooting Android, well at least I haven't really needed to root my Android phone because I can do so much stuff right from the start. (rooting is same as jailbreaking)

There are quick guides and tutorials there.Of course, there are some other reasons why people might jailbreak. But most people just want to be able to change themes and other Apple controlled stuff.

    Good luck and HH.

Hi Sorry to say that Xchange2 will not work with Win XP only with Win 7 and other New Windows. I have Windows XP and can not use Xchange2, so had to get a new computer to put Xchange2 on.

Yes, it indeed does work on XP as well on newer OS. If you have your iPhone non-jailbroken you could use "personal hotspot" feature provided your telco company have it enabled (just check it under "settings" - it should appear in between "Wi-Fi" and "Notifications") - if it does any you enable it, it will make a hot spot from your iPhone - you can then connect your laptop via WiFi (if your laptop has it) or via Apple sync cable. I guess there's even more options available when you have your iPhone jailbroken...

That's correct, my son uses his iPhone as a wireless router to his laptop all the time.
