Re: Why don't you post your finds?

Ha, I've just been trying to post some bits I've found over the last week.....and it the site just won't let me upload the pics I want. Apparently the file size is too big. I've cropped them right down already but, still too big apparently. So, given up!! For me, time is a big factor. I have tons of other priorities so, posting needs to be very simple and quick (including uploading pics). Not a criticism, just an observation

I can only agree with everyones sentiments entirely over this picture posting limit. There must have been a reason Gary did it when he built this forum but its probably the single most thing to do with this new site thats hacked everybody off. I spoke to Neil ( slow & low) this morning at length on the subject and he as good as said he doesn't post up his exploits in picture form anymore because of it. The limit also takes into account any smillies you happen to insert in the text also. I have had several people say the same as Neil so quite honestly if there Isn't a specific reason for it can we please have that ruling altered. If it leads to a lot more interest for people it needs doing post haste by the new owners of the forum please
Why Waste time using an ordinary detector when you have the option to own a CTX3030.

Just resize the file. Most photo software can do it easily and in seconds.
Or better yet, in the future set the camera to take small pictures if it has that option.

Tony, i think one of the reasons for limiting pic file size is if the pic exceeds the margins of the forum template, then the horiz. scroll bar has to be used to see it the whole pic. Worse, because the margins are now widened, scrolling must be used to read the text of other posts in the thread page. Been on forums where gigantic pics are allowed and its a genuine PITA scrolling around not to mention looong pic down load times for us unfortunates stuck with dial up modems.

Some forums have embedded software to automatically re-size photo files to fit the normal size of the forum template margins instead of expanding the margins to accomodate gigantic pics.

I am sure you are right Moparado....however, that was my point really. Having to re-size/crop/mess around with settings/upload to photobucket, etc is time consuming and means I am less likely to post. If I can take a picture, crop it and then post it straight onto the forum, I'm much more likely to be doing it regularly. It doesn't really bother me but, others like to enjoy shared finds and making it easier would surely encourage people to post pictures? Overall, I choose to get out detecting more rather than post comments .
Yesterday, I couldn't post pictures of a size that I am sure I have posted before straight from the computer which is a bit weird. I also couldn't really find a definitive answer to what the size limit is.....but, I'm probably being thick and didn't have hours to trawl around for the answer.

Re: Why don't you post your finds?

I must admit i find posting pics on here a nightmare, yes i know you can go bucket etc,but makes life awkward for me.

Seems like the other forums that i belong to ,you just size `em and post, simple.

On the poll need the question "is it hassle to post pics on here" trouble is most folk have allready voted now.

I agree that posting pics shouldn't be a hassle for anyone. I enjoy seeing pics of finds of all calibers; gold, silver, relics or basically anything one is proud to display.
Allowing gigantic pics from 16 mega pixal cameras here, which trust me is not a good idea as that horizontal scroll bar will get a real work out and i predict will result in unintended complaints.

The only solution as i see it, is what some other forums appear to be doing. That is somehow automatically resize pics to fit into the normal left/right margins of the forum template. I know this would be an additional PITA for the admin but is appears to be done with other forums. That shouldn't be rocket science in this day and age.

As i mentioned earlier, i'm on forums where giganticus pics are allowed and as a result the left/right margins have to be widened off the screen to accomodate the humungus pic. All text on that now widened page is also expanded margin to margin off screen which makes it a PITA to read having to use the scroll bar relentlessly.
Personally more often than not, i ignore thread pages with big MB oversize pics not only because of the hassle of scrolling but also it takes forever to download those gargantuan pics with my dial up.

Re: Why don't you post your finds?

It was direct from a website matey, not a file I'd saved.
Might of been because I'm using ipad2 to work this forum.
Seems to work ok on other forums though.
I'll have another go when I'm sane again.

Aye it's been a while John.

Hey, was in Durham few weeks ago, took my 11 year old to see the cathedral, the Harry potter bit.
He was a bit hungry so we went in the cathedrals cafe !
2 small sausage rolls, 2 cans of coke .....£7.80

I'd put money on the cathedral has never heard swearing like it!

Wonder why. In crowd, theres no In crowd but theres always a few who love to be on a different planet thats probably why they get ignored.

Re: Why don't you post your finds?

On an ipad2 , what's the best app to get if you have a picture from your camera that's 5mb and 2 foot square,
And you want to reduce it simply so you can post on a forum ?

I had a picture, put it on the laptop, but I just could not get it small enough to post on here .

I was testing downloading images in bigger sizes. No problem. Its just a easy as any site...
You dont have to go via Photobucket.Just go advanced and select files, then find the images on your computer then download,as easy as that.

This images are from size 1024 to 1772.
