Making MLO Ipad / Iphone friendly

I know I've mentioned this before but I thought it was worth a minute to see if anyone else has the same problems as me.
Whilst using my ipad and iphone the site frequently crashes closing my safari browser and a couple of times has crashed it badly enough to wipe all the open tabs as well.
Thought I would mention it as it's the main reason I hardly post here anymore and it seems as more people are using mobile devices it might become more viable to make a mobile friendly version.
Just my thoughts, would be interested to see if others suffer the crashing issue and would like a mobile version.

I browse and post on MLO from my iPhone all the time and have never had any problems. It will be interesting though to hear everybody's experiences...as you mentioned, more and more people are using mobile devices to surf the net.

My phone doesn't do that. I can zoom in as far as I like and the writing stays clear. Maybe the speed of your wireless provider? Not sure.

Karl its a bloody shame you dont come here so often. Please tell us why because you were a regular contributor to the forum and it was great to see all your finds. I have noticed a lot of others who don't visit also. There has to be a reason. I was out with my old mate Dave detecting last night and even he admitted he doesn't visit as often as he did, his reason was that since the forums been altered he can't find his way around which I can fully understand because being old and getting more senile by the day I sometimes have the same trouble .
People who are fully computer literate don't have a problem, trouble is there are an awful lot of people out there who struggle to understand things. What needs to be done to change things or make things easier to keep people visiting. Just lately we seem to have had a huge influx of new members from the states and around the world. We must be doing something right.

MLO works fine on my iPad, never had any problems with it, or at least any that worry me! and I spend 50% of my time on the iPad these days.

What browsers are people using on ipad/iphone? Maybe it's safari that is the problem?

Re: Making MLO Ipad / Iphone friendly

My regular sites used are the BBC, Detectorist, Amazon, Ebay, Youtube and MLO. of those its only MLO that has the crashing issue for me, maybe its because it has more high res. pictures and graphics running at once?
i dont know to be honest but I would love to be able to use it again like before.
Any help and opinion is valued

Got an HTC phone running android, MLO is no different to any other website, slow-ish and fiddly but useable when you are stuck waiting for a train. Much of the slowness is the network speed. On wi-fi it's great.

Not really been the same for since the uprade tbh

Its not really a detectorists forum anymore IMO - no one really bothers to post up finds/ adventures as was the norm a few years back

For me its not a navigation thing im far more IT literate than most although it could be offputting for some

The whole business about the CTX I have found very offputting, almost Eastenders like political saga/ spin

I guess at the end of the day we all have to question if thats what we individually want from our forum/ detecting

I will still post from time to time but not as frequently - i do think in becoming such a brazen marketing platform for Minelab that the forum, for me, has lost its way - simply not as attractive for me as the old format & jolly banter that did exist

Re: Making MLO Ipad / Iphone friendly

No problem on the Iphone, use the Puffin browser on the Ipad.

Here in Belgium we've got a forum that runs 99% on finds etc.
Very few technical experimental chat about detectors.
Every decent forum has got some kind of brand loyalty.

MLO is a decent mix, shame about the launch really winding people up.
In the end it's just a detector and not some life enhancing miracle pill.
But I guess you've got to be passionate about detecting to really get wound up by a new release.

Things have come back to normal, people are happily enjoying their tech/banter threads.
Now let's make it more mobile friendly. So modern day man can be converted to a hunter/gatherer.

Just checked on my old nokia, samsung galaxy s2, sSG note. Tmobile O2 and Virgin at home. Browsers Opera, Galaxy and Note inbuilt browser. Results MLO is slower than everything, I can watch utube and tvcatchup without delays, lags.

My iPad works fine with safari all I seem to browse with now but never crashed.Must agree with Karl though about site not being the same but I think it's since the dues came out and all the posts seem to be mine is better than yours and all seems to be a bit monotonous in the end.A few years ago it was nice to see collections of finds no matter how good they are.I suppose I am just the same must get out with the camera again.

Same with me, sometimes all I have with me is my iPhone...although I travel with my iPad, sometimes if I'm on a shoot I can't work any other device except my phone. Still like to stay in touch.

And being able to view media on MLOTV on a mobile device would be AWESOME!
