The day couldn't have started any better heading off to the meet up point in glorious sunshine with not a cloud in the sky,
the usual Thursday crowd turned up with a few guests for the day all hoping to find some thing of interest as the area we were in was full of history hopes were high.
We had two stubble fields to hit and a large rolled/drilled field,on arriving at the location the farmer drove across in his tractor and suggested a good start would be the the fields next to the medieval village :shock:
To cut a long story short a few people had their first hammered of the new season and a few had their first roman coin ever so a few smiling faces were sitting around chomping on their midday sarnie's.
I left to see the farmer to give him his money(that put a large smile on his face) he then said oh I have another large field over yonder you can go on (stubble) I asked if it would be possible to go on this one next time as the fields we were on now were producing roman and hammered coins of course he said any time.
When I left the fields mid afternoon to head home I'd seen numerous roman coins most were grots but there were a few presentable ones a couple of nice artifacts and 9 hammered coins.There were still people on the fields so there may well have been more.
Looking forward to heading back there soon as the farmer had just started to plough the stubble fields so who know's what lies beneath :superhappy:

every one that comes along pays for the day then I nip off and splash the cash to the farmer its a sure way of gaining permission to detect on farms we wouldn't usually get permission on..........
